About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan, implement, and conduct health promotion and public health education programs for clinics, schools, and community groups
  • Expand outreach, education, screenings, and referrals for chronic disease prevention, diabetes management, and tobacco cessation
  • Support the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program through outreach planning, community engagement, recruitment, follow-up documentation, reporting, meetings, registration, and service entry
  • Support the Tobacco/SWAT Coordinator and participate in SWAT Chapter youth empowerment, tobacco-prevention education, advocacy training, and policy efforts
  • Transport youth to statewide and regional events when needed
  • Increase outreach and education among priority populations regarding chronic disease prevention and associated risk factors
  • Increase screenings and referrals for diabetes prevention, diabetes management, asthma services, tobacco cessation, and breast and cervical programs
  • Support Diabetes Prevention Program activities, including community outreach, participant recruitment, classes, presentations, meetings, training, technical assistance, and program reporting
  • Potentially obtain certification as a Lifestyle Change Coach for the PreventT2 curriculum
  • Attend team and CHD staff meetings and participate in staff development
  • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Florida Statutes and Department of Health policy
  • Enter EARS within one day after the pay period at least 97% of the time and record services in HMS immediately
  • Perform other assigned duties and support additional initiatives with adjustable scheduling

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education
  • Knowledge of health specialty areas
  • Knowledge of data collection methods
  • Skill in operating audiovisual and computer equipment
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate health promotion and public health education programs
  • Ability to collect and analyze data
  • Ability to evaluate practices for compliance with statutes, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English
  • Ability to prepare reports, memoranda, pamphlets, curricula, lesson plans, and grant requests
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in specified fields
  • A master’s degree may substitute for one year of required experience
  • A doctorate may substitute for the required experience
  • Professional or nonprofessional experience may substitute year-for-year for required college education
  • Bilingual
  • Must complete a security background check and/or drug screening
  • Must complete Form I-9 and employment eligibility verification through E-Verify
  • Male applicants born on or after October 1, 1962, must meet Selective Service registration or exemption requirements
  • May be required to perform emergency duty before, during, or beyond normal work hours or days
