About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assist in developing and communicating division information and publications about animal disease or emergency response initiatives, responsibilities, accomplishments, and activities
  • Assist in developing education and outreach strategies in coordination with Department Communications
  • Research, conceptualize, write, and edit technical and creative materials, including trainings, grants, web pages, press releases, social media posts, brochures, and exhibits
  • Prepare and disseminate animal disease information for multimedia programs
  • Deliver informational speeches, presentations, and exhibits
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to ensure information is relevant and accurate
  • Work with the division publication liaison on brochure and publication updates
  • Participate in division video production, including scriptwriting and pre- and post-production planning
  • Coordinate with the Division of Marketing and Department Communications to publish videos
  • Coordinate outreach activities, including administrative duties, art projects, and video production services
  • Proofread and review outward-facing materials for grammar, spelling, sentence dynamics, and public understanding
  • Serve on the division Incident Management Team and assist or fill the public information officer role during animal disease or natural disaster emergency responses
  • Perform public information officer duties on emergency programs, including overnight travel and extended work in remote locations
  • Serve as the division’s primary point of contact for website updates
  • Conduct annual web page audits and draft updates for subject matter expert review and director/assistant director approval
  • Coordinate website posting with Department Communications and WebServices
  • Review posts for accuracy, maintain the division SharePoint website, and keep the team updated
  • Perform related work as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school degree or its equivalent and eight (8) years of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications or journalism; or
  • A bachelor’s degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications or journalism; or
  • A master’s degree (6 years) from an accredited college or university in communications or English can substitute for one year of the required experience
  • Requires possession of a valid Class E driver license
  • All fields in the Candidate Profile must be completed
  • Work history, duties and responsibilities, hours worked, supervisor, and formal education fields must be filled out to determine qualifications
  • Responses to Qualifying Questions must be verifiable in the Candidate Profile
  • Must provide honest and authentic responses during evaluation and selection
  • Foreign-trained graduates must provide a credential evaluation from an Approved Credential Evaluation Agency when using a foreign degree to meet requirements
  • Subject to reasonable suspicion drug testing in accordance with the Drug-Free Workplace Act
