About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct investigations under s. 20.055, F.S., the Whistle-blower Act, and agency policies and procedures
- Investigate allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, and employee misconduct
- Prepare notes, factual interview memorandums, chronological case documentation, and investigative plans
- Maintain orderly electronic and hard-copy case files
- Interview complainants, witnesses, and subjects and secure sworn statements
- Obtain and analyze documents and data and secure evidence under the Florida Evidence Code
- Prepare affidavits, investigative briefings, comprehensive reports, and summary reports
- Review and evaluate confidentiality requirements related to Whistle-blower investigations, HIPAA, and PHI
- Independently plan, manage, and conduct investigations, inquiries, and management reviews
- Provide briefings and training to agency managers, employees, and industry partners
- Develop liaison relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and industry partners
- Report suspected criminal-law violations and coordinate referrals
- Present briefings to law enforcement, prosecutorial agencies, and industry partners
- Testify regarding investigative findings in criminal, civil, administrative, or personnel proceedings
- Assist other bureaus, regulators, inspector general offices, and law enforcement agencies with investigations
- Recommend and implement policies, procedures, investigative strategies, and fraud-prevention measures
- Develop and maintain investigative standards for accreditation activities and assist with accreditation process management
- Maintain required training, continuing education, and certifications
- Perform other related duties and special projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree or higher in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Law, or a related subject from an accredited institution (preferred)
- Experience working in an investigative capacity within an Office of Inspector General (preferred)
- Familiarity with and experience conducting investigative activity in accordance with section 20.055, F.S.; the Principles and Standards for Offices of Inspectors General (Green Book); CFA investigation standards; and/or other applicable professional investigative standards (preferred)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to conduct personal interviews of subjects, complainants, and witnesses
- Ability to analyze case records and synthesize diverse information
- Experience planning, conducting, reporting, and defending criminal, internal, corporate integrity, or administrative investigations in due process hearings
- Excellent organizational, writing, and multitasking skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with OIG staff and department management and staff at all levels
- Ability to travel with or without accommodations
- Successful completion of State and National criminal history checks, including fingerprinting, before employment
- May be subject to screening under Chapters 435 and 408, F.S.
- Must comply with reasonable suspicion drug testing under the Drug-Free Workplace Act
