About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Directly support fire suppression and other emergency response operations
  • Coordinate emergency responses of firefighters, supervisors, pilots and law enforcement personnel through a communication center
  • Handle critical situations requiring independent judgment
  • Perform operational fire control and other support duties
  • Receive radio and telephone information concerning wildfires and smoke obscuring highways
  • Determine required action and dispatch emergency response personnel and/or aircraft
  • Ensure the security of law enforcement investigators conducting arson, timber theft and surveillance operations
  • Approve or deny outdoor burning authorizations by telephone and advise landowners on burning laws and safety precautions
  • Maintain computer records of burning authorizations, fire reports, fire readiness reports and daily weather information
  • Transmit, receive and store district records and reports using a computer
  • Maintain up-to-the-minute knowledge of the location of crews and equipment, including firefighters and patrol aircraft
  • Perform other related work as assigned, which may include handling revenue

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A high school diploma or its equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in radio-teletype operations, sworn law enforcement, dispatching, forestry, firefighting or other public contact work
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for the required experience
  • Possession of a valid class E driver license
  • Occasional travel for training required
  • Must live within thirty (30) miles of the assigned headquarters at 2889 Forestry Drive, Bonifay, Florida, throughout employment
  • Successful applicant must pass a background screening, including fingerprinting
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts and remain or be called to duty beyond the assigned work schedule
  • Must provide honest and authentic responses during evaluation and selection
