About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collaborate with the GM of Sales to set territory or division growth goals
- Develop a sales plan and maintain an active customer and top prospect list
- Review opportunities with the GM of Sales and strategize how to advance them
- Communicate Steel Technologies’ strengths and value proposition to prospective and existing customers
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through in-person meetings and appropriate entertainment
- Meet decision makers and sell vertically to engineers, quality personnel, and other customer stakeholders
- Network at all customer levels to embed Steel Technologies in customers’ operations and needs
- Prospect new business and solicit quotes in person
- Respond to quotations promptly using the company standard quoting format
- Convert quotations into earned business
- Improve profitability and grow existing customer accounts
- Understand customer businesses and move up the customer value chain
- Provide market intelligence and become a trusted customer partner
- Drive profitability and growth using business and market understanding
- Construct customer agreements that reduce risk, working with the Legal Department
- Hold customers accountable to agreement terms, including obsolete and slow-moving inventory responsibility
- Become the subject matter expert for business available within the territory or division
- Maintain accurate CRM records and communicate information to management
- Develop competitor intelligence and understand Steel Technologies’ competitive value proposition
- Develop knowledge of end-user markets through customer contacts and research
- Pursue education and development within the company
- Collaborate with the Support Team to ensure excellent customer service
- Collaborate with the Account Manager to improve forecast accuracy
- Address tier 3 customer escalations, including sales contract issues, aged inventory, and accounts receivable collection
- Communicate pricing updates clearly and promptly to the Support Team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Sales professional with knowledge and understanding of sales, sales techniques, relationship building, and strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and teammates
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacture and distribution of steel and other flat rolled metal products
- Time management and proactive planning
- Consistent in-person client engagement with timely and strategic outreach
- Ability to prospect and cold call
- Professional accountability, both internal and external
- Travel required 60–80%
- Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one to five years of experience in sales
- Formal education may be substituted with experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the job, with reasonable accommodations available
- Successful completion of a 10-panel drug screening, including marijuana, as a condition of employment
- Willingness to work in a safety-sensitive workplace
