About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support and manage Aurora PostgreSQL database environments
- Automate build and support tasks across Oracle, MS SQL, and PostgreSQL technologies
- Follow best practices for incident, problem, and change management
- Lead projects independently with minimal guidance
- Manage and support Aurora PostgreSQL platforms in collaboration with AWS, application support, and infrastructure teams
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain AWS database instances
- Recommend and implement database security policies
- Recommend and implement database backup, recovery, and redundancy strategies
- Implement automated procedures to proactively handle issues and alerts
- Perform database performance analysis, capacity planning, system sizing, and ongoing maintenance
- Monitor and mitigate risk through risk and control processes, escalating appropriately
- Participate in an on-call rotation to support production incidents
- Articulate and present information clearly and confidently
- Generate and pursue new ideas and processes to address challenges
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5 to 8 years of experience
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience, including a minimum of 3 years of related PostgreSQL experience
- Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of AWS cloud technologies; AWS certification would be a plus
- 3+ years of experience managing large-scale Aurora database environments
- Strong performance tuning and optimization skills, including rewriting SQL for optimal performance
- Extensive experience with automation using Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins
- Strong knowledge of Unix, Linux, and Windows operating systems
- Hands-on experience with Shell and Python scripting to automate tasks and enable self-healing capabilities
- Strong experience with partitioning and handling large databases
- Understanding of OS, networking, applications, and their impact on databases
- Ability to manage tasks and projects independently with minimal guidance
- Ability to independently research, design, document, and implement new database-related services
- Solid experience in backup and recovery processes
- Ability to determine business and customer needs in complex environments and provide appropriate solutions
- Early joiners preferred
