Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set technical direction across a portion of the product
  • Identify, frame and solve previously unrecognized technical problems across teams
  • Lead product-area technical decision-making for shared services, platform components and team boundaries
  • Own reviews for major changes
  • Identify scaling bottlenecks, operational toil and security exposure using data
  • Improve engineering delivery speed across teams
  • Drive agents, shared plugins and AI infrastructure in CI and code review
  • Own governance for AI tooling, including failure modes, drift and safe-use standards
  • Make build-vs-buy recommendations for AI investment
  • Lead complex platform changes, framework upgrades, security architecture, estate-level cost and reliability initiatives
  • Align multiple teams on shared outcomes
  • Bring engineering-originated proposals to product and explain technical trade-offs to leadership
  • Mentor engineers beyond the immediate team through standards and tooling
  • Participate in a four-stage interview process including a take-home technical task and final in-person interview

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Deep commercial experience with PHP and Laravel or a similar MVC framework
  • Experience leading architecture and design across multiple teams or systems
  • Experience with Vue 3, React, Angular or a similar modern JavaScript framework
  • Strong production experience with AWS
  • Experience shaping cost, reliability and security at estate level
  • AI-native working approach
  • Experience building AI tooling, agents or infrastructure used by other engineers
  • Knowledge of AI guardrails and safe-use standards
  • Ability to turn ambiguous, open-ended problems into maintainable solutions
  • Ability to become productive in unfamiliar teams or codebases quickly
  • Product and systems thinking
  • Ability to align teams with competing priorities and communicate technical trade-offs in commercial terms
  • Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK
