About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deliver specific course content in an online environment
- Provide instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process
- Address students’ individual needs as defined by their Individualized Education Programs
- Work with students and parents to advance student learning
- Complete compliance documentation for students with special needs
- Ensure special education and related services are provided according to IEP team determinations
- Communicate with parents and related service staff regarding appropriate therapies
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and required state-specific special education documentation
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings
- Use resources such as assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text to provide accommodations and modifications
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments according to IEP requirements
- Ensure student inclusion and success in the general education classroom
- Collect data and work samples to monitor progress toward IEP goals and objectives
- Document parent contacts and student interventions
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
- Personalize learning and maintain high expectations for all students
- Maintain the grade book and student academic integrity
- Make student placement and promotion decisions
- Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Establish positive rapport with families and communicate promptly with students and learning coaches/parents
- Support learning coaches and parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support student outcomes
Requirements
What you’ll need- North Carolina Teaching Certification required
- Special Education endorsement required
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Residency in North Carolina or a border state within a 30-mile radius; out-of-state residents must have North Carolina teaching certification
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction
- Ability to work during typical school hours, 9–5 or 8–4, as defined by the school
- Ability to travel up to 20% for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school
- Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data
- Ability to use student data to drive instructional decisions
- Receptive to regular coaching from administrators
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Desired: experience with the proposed age group
- Desired: experience supporting adults and children using technology
- Desired: experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment
- Desired: experience with an online learning platform
