About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deliver specific course content in an online environment
- Provide instruction, support, and guidance focused on students’ individual needs under their IEPs
- Manage the learning process
- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure appropriate therapies
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and required special education documentation
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings
- Use assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text to provide accommodations and modifications
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments according to IEPs
- Ensure inclusion and student success in the general education classroom
- Collect data and work samples to monitor IEP progress
- Document parent contacts and student interventions
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
- Personalize learning and maintain high expectations
- Maintain the grade book and student academic integrity
- Make student placement and promotion decisions
- Alert administrators to performance and progress concerns
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Build positive rapport with families and communicate promptly with students and learning coaches/parents
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues
- Travel for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or other school requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Michigan Teaching Certification required
- Special Education endorsement required
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Residency in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction
- Ability to work during typical school hours, 9-5 or 8-4
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data
- Ability to use student data to drive instructional decisions
- Receptive to regular coaching from administrators
- Ability to embrace change and adapt
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with the proposed age group preferred
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology preferred
- Experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment preferred
- Experience with an online learning platform preferred
