About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Promote student success through a comprehensive school counseling program
- Guide students in academic success, social and emotional development, and career and college planning
- Help students plan postsecondary options, apply academic achievement strategies, and manage emotions and interpersonal skills
- Focus students and families on college and career readiness
- Meet quarterly with students on the caseload to review graduation plans and postsecondary options
- Deliver classroom instruction based on student success standards
- Review transcripts and academic documentation
- Collaborate with teaching staff to develop four-year graduation plans and audit student schedules
- Assist with course placement, including Advanced Placement and pathway recommendations
- Analyze student data and develop data-driven intervention action plans
- Provide short-term counseling and referrals for long-term support
- Support teachers, staff, and parents
- Support standardized testing, parent education, and staff development
- Advocate for students at individual education plan and other student-focused meetings
- Focus students and families on goal setting and academic planning
- Travel for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- North Carolina School Counselor Certification required
- Master's degree required
- Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
- School Counselor License
- Ability to clear required background check
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based search engines, and database systems
- Flexible schedule
- Ability to travel as needed
- Master’s degree in school counseling
- Experience with distance learning
- Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
- Residents of North Carolina or border states within a 30-mile radius; out-of-state residents must have North Carolina School Counselor certification
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
