About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver specific course content in an online environment
  • Provide instruction, support, and guidance while managing the learning process
  • Focus on students’ individual needs as defined by their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Work actively with students and parents to advance student learning
  • Complete compliance documents required for serving students with special needs
  • Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure appropriate therapies
  • Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and state-required special education documentation
  • Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings
  • Use resources and provide accommodations and modifications, including assistive technology and accessible text
  • Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments according to IEPs
  • Ensure inclusion and success of students in general education classrooms
  • Collect data and work samples to monitor progress toward IEP goals
  • Document parent contacts and student interventions
  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment
  • Provide synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
  • Maintain a grade book and academic integrity
  • Make student placement and promotion decisions and alert administrators to performance concerns
  • Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
  • Maintain positive rapport with families and communicate with students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
  • Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual classroom troubleshooting issues
  • Travel for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or school requirements as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Florida 5 Year Professional Special Education certificate
  • Florida Reading and ESOL Endorsements
  • Florida residency
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Active state teaching license
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions
  • Receptive to receiving regular coaching from administrators
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
  • Experience working with the proposed age group (desired)
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology (desired)
  • Experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment (desired)
  • Experience with an online learning platform (desired)
