Middle School History Teacher

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students
- Personalize learning for all students
- Differentiate instruction based on student level of mastery
- Augment course content using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools under guidance from the principal and coach
- Maintain the grade book and student academic integrity
- Make student placement and promotion decisions
- Alert administrators to concerns about student performance and progress
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families
- Communicate with and respond to students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular and instructional issues and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom
- Monitor student progress through Stride K12’s learning management system
- Travel as required, on average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time, for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and other school requirements
Requirements
What you’ll need- Appropriate state Department of Education Middle School (5-8) History Teaching Certification Required
- This position is virtual and open to residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C.
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 9-5 (or 8-4) or as defined by the school
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Experience working with proposed age group
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
- Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment
- Experience with online learning platforms
- Ability to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data and use it to drive instructional decisions
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs, and curriculum
