About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Promote student success through a comprehensive school counseling program
  • Guide students in academic success, social and emotional development, and career and college planning
  • Help students plan postsecondary options and apply academic achievement strategies
  • Meet quarterly with students on the caseload to review graduation plans and postsecondary options
  • Deliver classroom instruction based on student success standards
  • Review transcripts and academic documentation
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to develop four-year graduation plans and audit student schedules
  • Assist with course placement, including Advanced Placement recommendations and enrichment pathways
  • Analyze student data and develop data-driven intervention action plans
  • Provide short-term counseling and referrals for long-term support
  • Support teachers, staff, and parents
  • Support standardized testing, parent education, and staff development
  • Advocate for students at individualized education plan and other student-focused meetings
  • Focus students and families on goal setting and academic planning for college and career readiness
  • Travel up to 20% for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Appropriate state Department of Education School Counselor Certification required
  • This position is virtual and open to residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C.
  • Full-time availability, typically 40+ hours per week
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement
  • School Counselor License
  • Ability to clear required background check
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, web-based search engines, and database systems
  • Flexible schedule
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Experience with distance learning
  • Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
  • Experience as a teacher
  • Experience in a customer service environment
  • Experience with local, state, and federal laws and mandated reporting
  • Experience in a charter school environment preferred
  • Experience with state career planning systems, Pathfinder, or other career planning platforms/tools
