About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Partner with technical product management and business stakeholders to lead technology direction, facilitate technical decisions, and deliver products
- Interface with engineering groups and enterprise architecture
- Collaborate on integration projects, best practices, and introduction of new technologies
- Commit to roadmaps with capabilities and timelines
- Evaluate and introduce new products and technologies
- Align technology with business strategy and drive technical direction throughout the organization
- Adopt Continuous Integration/Deployment (CI/CD) methodology and institute a frequent release cadence
- Manage Software Engineer and Quality Assurance Engineer teams, including full-time and contract resources
- Directly supervise 7–15 FTE regular employees and/or contractors
- Interview, hire, train, assign, direct, and appraise employees; reward and discipline staff; address complaints and resolve problems
- Lead and mentor engineering team members
- Provide innovation-focused thought leadership and disseminate information on product development, engineering, and development processes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Six (6) years’ proven experience in software engineering leadership roles
- Strong engineering delivery and execution track record, with proven experience around the complete lifecycle of product development
- Ability to attract talent, inspire the organization, and develop the next generation of leaders
- Ability to build trusting, meaningful relationships with peers, stakeholders, and partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including influencing technical decisions and direction, conflict management, negotiation, and presentations
- Full commitment to customer satisfaction
- Identify and drive innovation in products, technologies, processes, and solutions
- High standards, results-oriented, pro-active, and commitment to delivering high-quality software on time and in budget
- Leadership skills including coaching/mentoring, critical thinking, facilitation, change leadership, and team development
- Software development and automation including Agile, CI/CD, DevOps, build and test automation, orchestration/fulfillment, assurance, and performance
- Relevant experience in large-scale application architecture/design, middleware architecture, integration architecture, application deployment methods, automation, testing, compliance, and auditing
- Service-oriented and microservice architecture for highly available cloud-hosted applications and services in AWS
- Understanding of UI/UX principles and best practices
- Ability and desire to thrive in a proactive, high-pressure environment
- Ability to clearly write technical specifications and strong estimating and planning skills
- Experience with object-oriented design and design patterns
- Solid understanding of source control and using it effectively
- Experience working with offshore and distributed teams
- Microsoft Office, web proficiency
- Ability to travel 5% of the time
- Ability to clear required background check
- Desired: Five (5) years working on and/or leading Agile teams
- Desired: Five (5) years of broad knowledge of Java
- Desired: Three (3) years of experience with Angular
- Desired: Two (2) years of experience with AWS
- Desired: One (1) year of experience building Progressive Web Apps (PWA)
- Desired: One (1) year of experience with Polymer or Stencil
