About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Deliver specific course content in an online environment
- Provide instruction, support, and guidance based on students' Individualized Education Programs
- Manage the learning process and focus on individual student needs
- Work with students and parents to advance student learning
- Ensure special education and related services are provided as determined by the IEP team
- Communicate with parents and related service staff regarding appropriate therapies
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and required special education documentation
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, including annual IEP meetings
- Implement accommodations and modifications using assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments according to IEPs
- Ensure student inclusion and success in the general education classroom
- Collect data and work samples to monitor IEP progress
- Document parent contacts and student interventions
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment
- Provide synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences
- Maintain the grade book and support academic integrity
- Make student placement and promotion decisions and alert administrators to performance concerns
- Prepare students for high-stakes standardized tests
- Establish positive rapport with families and communicate with students and learning coaches/parents in a timely manner
- Support learning coaches/parents with curricular, instructional, and basic virtual-classroom troubleshooting issues
- Travel for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or school requirements as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Appropriate state Department of Education Special Education Teaching Certification required
- If certification is from another state, proof of New Mexico license application within 7 days of start date and approved New Mexico teaching license within 90 days of start date
- Bachelor's degree
- Active state teaching license
- Ability to clear required background check
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data
- Ability to use student data to drive instructional decisions
- Receptive to regular coaching from administrators
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during the workday
- Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week
- Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
- Experience working with the proposed age group (desired)
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology (desired)
- Experience teaching online or in a brick-and-mortar environment (desired)
- Experience with an online learning platform (desired)
