About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the day-to-day legal function and set priorities and standards
- Build, manage, and mentor the legal team, including hiring, workload distribution, and professional development
- Advise on data privacy and security law, policies, and incident response
- Negotiate customer contracts, including MSAs, order forms, DPAs, and enterprise procurement paperwork
- Advise Product and Engineering on intellectual property, licensing, open-source usage, and proprietary technology
- Partner with Sales and Revenue Operations on contracting playbooks, standard terms, and approval thresholds
- Manage outside counsel relationships and legal spend
- Advise leadership on governance, risk, and compliance matters
- Support employment law matters with People/HR, including policy review and workplace investigations
- Monitor regulatory and legislative developments affecting SaaS, privacy, artificial intelligence, and served sectors
- Manage contract lifecycle management and legal operations tooling
- Collaborate with Finance on overdue customer accounts and legal remedies
- Establish and track Legal department KPIs and improve processes, including AI-driven workflow automation
- Support M&A, corporate transactions, and strategic initiatives
- Report to the CFO and collaborate with teams across the organization and executive leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- J.D. and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state
- 8+ years of legal experience, including at least 3 years in-house at a B2B SaaS or technology company
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience negotiating SaaS customer contracts, including MSAs, DPAs, and complex order forms
- Experience managing or mentoring attorneys and legal professionals
- Strong expertise in data privacy and security law, including privacy programs and regulatory change
- Solid grounding in intellectual property law for software products, including licensing and open-source considerations
- Experience advising business and senior leaders on governance, risk, and compliance matters
- Sound business judgment and ability to balance legal risk with commercial pragmatism
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and cross-functional influence skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and improve legal processes and policy in a fast-growing organization
- Must live and reside in the U.S. full-time
- Eligible to work in the United States; scholastic or employment visas cannot be accommodated
