About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and drive the payments product roadmap with the Head of Payments
  • Translate strategic direction into a sequenced, defensible roadmap
  • Write PRDs and business requirements covering failure paths, reconciliation impact, and scope boundaries
  • Lead the payments mission-aligned team by setting priorities and cadence, running planning, and representing team needs
  • Partner with the engineering manager and engineers on execution
  • Own delivery by sequencing work, removing blockers, and managing scope
  • Serve as the day-to-day payments subject matter expert for processing, routing, and payment method decisions
  • Own and optimize dynamic routing strategy using data
  • Lead payments market entry, assessing local payment method coverage, acquiring strategy, currency and FX handling, and regulatory requirements
  • Analyze authorization rates, decline patterns, cost per transaction, and settlement performance
  • Report monthly to Finance and company-wide stakeholders on delivery, performance, priorities, and execution needs
  • Monitor industry and regulatory changes, including SCA, network rules, local scheme requirements, and alternative payment method adoption

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 7+ years hands-on with a complex, tech-forward payments stack
  • Experience with gateways, processors and acquirers, vaulting and tokenization, alternative payment methods, and dispute tooling
  • Merchant-side experience is essential; issuer exposure is an advantage
  • Fluency in both one-time payments and recurring billing
  • Understanding of authorization holds, delayed capture, settlement, dunning and retry strategy, network tokens and account updater, credential-on-file, MIT versus CIT handling, and involuntary churn
  • Track record of leading global, cross-functional payments initiatives from requirements through launch and stabilization
  • Ability to write clear requirements and defend prioritization decisions
  • Payments engineering and data fluency sufficient to direct technical work and engage with senior engineers on architecture
  • Market entry experience launching payments in new markets
  • Ability to lead without formal authority in a matrixed environment
  • Executive communication skills
  • Resourceful and self-directed in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
  • Direct payments experience in APAC, EEA or LATAM is a bonus
  • Experience in high-volume consumer businesses and familiarity with marketplace, travel, or e-commerce payment flows is a bonus
  • Exposure to disputes and chargeback data is a bonus
  • Must have citizenship status, a valid open work permit, open work visa, or permanent residency allowing work for any employer in Canada or the US for at least the next 12 months
