About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems on Supermicro equipment at customer sites and remotely
  • Lead preventive maintenance actions and manage repair/parts cycle times
  • Manage and quickly correct escalation situations
  • Provide second-line support to resellers and distributors
  • Maintain extensive enterprise solution product knowledge
  • Collaborate with Technical Account, Service, and Product Managers to define service programs
  • Provide fault triage and training materials
  • Run tests and simulations at the company facility
  • Travel to customer sites to train personnel and resolve customer issues
  • Train new service engineers
  • Take ownership of the customer base under Technical Account Manager direction
  • Work independently in the field and defuse challenging situations
  • Determine requirements and root causes of technical issues with customers
  • Research, implement, and escalate solutions as needed
  • Produce reports and metrics
  • Support the Global Service network and contribute to building a field engineering organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in field support servicing complex X86 systems and parts preferred
  • Associate degree in electrical technology, electronics, or equivalent military experience considered
  • Work experience in large enterprises or certification in Windows and Linux environments is a plus
  • Break/fix experience and on-site customer service experience
  • Hands-on experience with servers (Supermicro, EMC, DELL, HP)
  • Solid hardware system diagnostics skills
  • Understanding of how BIOS, drivers, and application loads can cause system issues
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication, project management, and time management skills
  • Ability to participate in multiple concurrent cross-functional projects in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to learn and embrace new and changing technologies
  • Ability to work in a challenging, dynamic, fast-paced environment and identify and escalate issues promptly
  • Full professional proficiency in English (read/write/speak)
  • Familiarity with Linux is a plus
  • Travel required, up to 25%
