About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes designed for active older adults
- Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and exercise modifications for varied fitness levels and physical abilities
- Incorporate exercises improving strength, balance, mobility, flexibility, and cardiovascular health
- Create a supportive and welcoming class atmosphere that encourages participation and community
- Monitor participants throughout class to ensure proper technique and safety
- Prepare structured class plans appropriate for the senior population
- Conduct the class every Wednesday from 3 to 4 pm at 1015 North School Street, Honolulu
- Deliver mostly seated exercises, including seated leg extensions and heel and toe raises
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must live in Honolulu to teach this class
- Current nationally recognized Group Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent)
- CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required
- Certification or specialization in Senior Fitness, Active Aging, SilverSneakers, or Functional Aging preferred
- Previous experience teaching group fitness classes, especially with older adults
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong member-service mindset
- Must always be on time and available to teach the class every Wednesday
- A Google Meet video interview is required
- Knowledge of functional fitness, balance training, and fall prevention
- Ability to provide modifications for common conditions such as arthritis, joint limitations, and osteoporosis
- Ability to motivate and connect with members in a positive and encouraging way
