About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and programs
  • Ensure compliance with OR DEQ, OR/OSHA, and applicable industry best practices
  • Manage environmental permits, reporting, waste management, air and water compliance, and hazardous materials handling
  • Lead site audits, inspections, and regulatory inspections; prepare corrective action plans and track closure
  • Establish and maintain a site-wide safety management system and set annual EHS goals and metrics
  • Lead risk assessments for new processes, equipment, and product formulations
  • Oversee incident investigations using root-cause analysis and corrective actions; track trends and drive prevention
  • Conduct safety trainings and toolbox talks; maintain training records
  • Coordinate safety and environmental considerations for timber processing, adhesive usage, finishing, coatings, and wood dust
  • Develop and monitor procedures for fall protection, equipment guarding, dust control, ventilation, and housekeeping
  • Develop and maintain emergency response, fire protection, spill response, and business continuity plans; conduct drills
  • Maintain EHS records, SDS library, incident databases, and regulatory calendars
  • Build safety culture through floor leadership, supervisor mentorship, and transparent EHS communication
  • Partner with HR and production on workers’ compensation administration, return-to-work programs, and ergonomics initiatives
  • Interface with suppliers, contractors, and customers on EHS expectations and compliance documentation
  • Identify process improvements, EHS-related cost reductions, and sustainability initiatives
  • Prepare and present EHS performance reports to leadership
  • Lead the site EHS team and committees; delegate responsibilities while maintaining accountability
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations on daily planning, preventive maintenance, and capital project reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience, preferably in manufacturing or wood products, mass timber, or lumber operations
  • Experience with wood dust, adhesives, coatings, or related chemical processes is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations
  • Experience with permits, reporting, incident investigations, and training development
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency in risk assessment tools (HIRA, JSA/Job Hazard Analysis, HAZOP), incident management, and data analytics
  • CSP, BCSE, or CIH certifications preferred
  • Additional OSHA 30/10, LEAN/6S, or ISO 45001 certifications beneficial
