About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead development and lifecycle management of consumer bank and credit servicing applications
Lead hands-on system design and architecture for time-sensitive projects
Influence agile development teams throughout the Agile development lifecycle using SAFe
Implement new technologies and assist developers migrating to new technologies
Architect full-stack applications across PCF, cloud-native, microservices, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful API ecosystems
Design data models supporting complex business processes
Drive CI/CD strategy using Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy
Collaborate with software developers, UX designers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts
Mentor and influence team members at all levels
Ensure compliance with Synchrony architecture, security, and technology standards
Maintain future-state technology architecture strategy and modernization/migration roadmap
Participate in Agile scrums and lead Agile sprints, including planning, standups, backlog grooming, and reviews
Ensure application code quality through development, testing, and QA
Address root-cause analyses and incident reports; direct problem resolution
Analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root causes, and implement fixes
Provide periodic 24x7 on-call support
Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance
Work with third-party vendors to develop or integrate software
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience with software engineering OR, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of experience with software engineering
Minimum 6 years of application development experience
Spring Boot and Spring Cloud development background
Deep expertise in solution and event-driven architecture, microservice architecture, and cloud technologies
Experience with PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful APIs
Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills
Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required
Experience building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST
Expertise with continuous integration environments
Experience writing unit, integration, and UI test cases
Experience with responsive web design principles and cross-device support
Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry
Knowledge using Splunk for production support
Experience with database architecture and modeling; familiarity with MySQL, SQL, and GemFire
Familiarity with JSON, REST, and XML-based web services
Working knowledge of the mobile industry
Experience developing and supporting financial/banking applications
Experience utilizing Dev AI tools such as GitHub Copilot
Must be 18 years or older
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation, and submit fingerprints
Must satisfy Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act
Legal authorization to work in the U.S. required; employment visa sponsorship unavailable
