About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide technical leadership for building and enhancing on-premises data warehouse solutions and accelerating migration to AWS, including Amazon Redshift
- Understand and manage stakeholder data needs within a single business vertical
- Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant data applications on-premises and in AWS to store and process terabytes of upstream data with high availability
- Partner with information architects, platform architects, data scientists and product management on requirements and solution design
- Evaluate business and system processes, enterprise standards and procedures to resolve problems
- Comply with data management policies, standards and procedures
- Lead design, development, testing oversight and production implementation using on-premises RDBMS platforms, Ab Initio, SQL and AWS/Amazon Redshift
- Lead the technical team in delivering data solutions and identifying system and process enhancements
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Product Managers, Program Managers, Scrum Masters and team members in a Scaled Agile framework
- Manage business partner relationships and inter-group planning among technology leadership and peers
- Track data engineering trends and promote recommended practices
- Promote automation and innovative frameworks to avoid redundancy
- Collaborate with data engineering team members to promote Synchrony values and culture
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in Technology in the consumer banking industry OR High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 6 years of experience in Technology OR successful completion of Synchrony’s Business Leadership Program
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with large-scale relational databases and public cloud environments, preferably AWS
- Strong experience with ETL, data warehousing, AWS cloud technologies and analytics concepts
- Strong engineering skills in on-premises RDBMS/data warehouse platforms, Ab Initio (GDE/Co>Operating System), advanced SQL, AWS and Amazon Redshift
- Hands-on experience with Amazon Redshift and related AWS data services
- Experience with batch and real-time data pipelines in a DevOps environment
- Willingness to work with globally located Agile teams working in different shifts
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with Technology and Business Stakeholders
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required
- Willingness to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints during onboarding
- Must satisfy Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.; employment visa sponsorship is not available
- Desired: prior experience in credit card, banking or fintech companies; regulated sensitive data; Tableau; APIs/Microservices; complex innovative solutions; data engineering publications
