About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee design projects for Sysco's global operations, including conceptual designs for new and renovated facilities
- Lead activities of 8 Sysco direct employees across planning, preliminary design, layout iterations, RFP documentation, and final design coordination for multiple nationwide projects
- Coordinate with and manage outside design professionals and consultants
- Lead design teams for distribution, manufacturing, processing, and office facilities
- Develop and maintain design and construction standards for distribution and manufacturing projects
- Ensure facility designs reflect best operational practices, state-of-the-art materials and equipment, and corporate sustainability goals
- Lead Interior Design and Space Planning for associate workspaces, furniture, finishes, lighting, audiovisual systems, and artwork
- Collaborate with real estate, construction, and business teams on conceptual layouts and scenarios
- Develop the organizational structure for construction and processing design projects
- Recruit, develop, motivate, and retain outsourced and in-house design organization talent
- Create and implement onboarding, training, and associate development plans
- Plan and implement tools for design and construction teams, including CAD, project management, cloud-based real estate portfolio, and estimating tools
- Develop and implement communications plans for design and construction professionals
- Travel to Sysco facilities or operating companies in the US, Canada, Central America, and Europe
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Architectural, Engineering, or Construction Management required
- Master's degree in a technical area or business preferred
- Process engineering experience with a focus on meat required
- Experience with food processing or food distribution facilities projects required
- Experience successfully leading teams of professionals in a corporate setting required
- Robust PC skills: Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project, and AutoCAD required
- Knowledge of construction contracts, including lien and bonding processes required
- Professional certification or licensure as an architect, engineer, or construction project manager preferred
- Familiarity with industrial structures and building systems preferred, including insulated metal panel construction, ammonia refrigeration systems, automatic fire protection systems, HVAC and mechanical systems, electrical and lighting systems, plumbing, and wastewater treatment systems
- Familiarity with OSHA, PSM, and RMP regulatory guidelines and programs preferred
- Travel roughly 25% of the time
- Valid Passport and Driver's License required
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to walk, crawl, crouch, climb ladders, and work at heights for inspection duties
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
