About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the creative vision for Target’s interior store environments
  • Develop future store concepts, department transformations, and scalable design systems across new stores, remodels, and enterprise initiatives
  • Serve as the creative authority for interior store design, establishing design direction and preserving creative intent through implementation
  • Partner with Architecture, Store Planning, Visual Merchandising, Merchandising, Brand Experience, and cross-functional teams
  • Provide design direction, critique, mentorship, and thought leadership
  • Lead complex design initiatives and influence executive leaders and cross-functional partners
  • Connect guest insights, business strategy, and emerging retail trends to innovative design frameworks
  • Bring external perspectives and industry-leading practices from retail, hospitality, architecture, and experiential design
  • Balance creative ambition with speed, cost, and operational complexity

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Four-year degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in retail, interior, environmental, or industrial design
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to create compelling physical environments from concept through execution
  • Demonstrated design judgment and ability to translate conceptual ideas into scalable, buildable environments
  • Experience working within or alongside complex, cross-functional organizations
  • Deep understanding of materials, finishes, fixture systems, and how environments are detailed and built
  • Proven ability to lead through influence, aligning designers and cross-functional partners around a shared creative vision
  • Strong communication, presentation, and influence skills, including experience presenting to and partnering with executive leadership
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, balance competing priorities, and maintain a clear creative vision in a fast-paced environment
