About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Set the strategy for software development and/or infrastructure engineering at Target
- Set direction for software and infrastructure engineering across multiple portfolios and drive adoption across TTS
- Lead and approve engineering efforts to meet functional and non-functional requirements
- Mentor internal and external technical talent and contribute to the external technical community
- Understand Target’s business and technical environments and help resolve complex business challenges
- Assess technical solutions through proofs of concept and prototypes, including viability, applicability, and cost implications
- Collaborate with technical staff and Enterprise Architecture teams to set technical direction
- Drive technology lifecycle management and communicate standards and decisions to engineering teams
- Participate in procurement specifications, installation, and maintenance of Target systems
- Lead the design and building of the Target platform API, focusing on scalability, availability, and performance
- Advocate for extreme Agile and DevOps practices
- Work with engineering leaders to build high-performing engineering teams
- Provide technical leadership, coaching, motivation, and participate in selecting technical talent
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4-year degree or equivalent experience
- Continuing education to maintain thorough knowledge of technical domains and stay current with technologies
- 12+ years of experience in technology development or services
- 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and setting technical direction
- Strong understanding of systems programming and control languages relevant to the domain
- Demonstrated success solving complex technical problems in more than one technical or functional area
- Understanding of business fundamentals, technology support for business goals, technical strategy, and financial implications
- Proven leadership, influencing, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Strong teamwork and team-effectiveness knowledge
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Experience with Java/J2EE, SQL/NoSQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, graph structures, Python, Ruby, Chef, Drone, Kubernetes containers, and cloud technology
- Work duties cannot be performed outside the country of the primary work location unless otherwise prescribed by Target
