About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide enterprise governance and subject matter expertise for Incident Management and Emergency Management programs
- Develop, maintain, and improve incident and emergency management frameworks, standards, procedures, tools, guidance, and program expectations
- Advise leaders, operations teams, and functional partners on event classification, response expectations, investigations, corrective actions, lessons learned, and regulatory considerations
- Lead incident investigations, including cause analysis, findings, corrective actions, and lessons learned
- Facilitate alignment sessions, decision-making discussions, cross-functional reviews, and program implementation activities
- Share best practices, lessons learned, emerging risks, and improvement opportunities
- Review investigation reports, emergency response documentation, incident records, corrective actions, and related deliverables
- Plan and execute assurance activities, program assessments, field verifications, management system reviews, and corrective action effectiveness evaluations
- Analyze incident data, emergency response performance, recurring causes, corrective action trends, and assurance results
- Support emergency preparedness and response through plans, procedures, training materials, exercises, and response tools
- Coach and mentor investigators, emergency management practitioners, operational leaders, and functional partners
- Represent Incident and Emergency Management on cross-functional initiatives
- Travel and stay overnight away from home, estimated up to 20% of work schedule
- Participate in emergency response or on-call rotation as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Emergency Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
- Eight (8) or more years of progressive experience in incident investigation, emergency management, operational risk, process safety, regulatory compliance, management systems, or a related field
- Experience leading incident investigations and developing investigation findings, causal conclusions, corrective actions, and formal investigation reports, or demonstrated knowledge and experience in Incident Command System principles and emergency response organizational structures
- Experience conducting assurance reviews, audits, assessments, or management system evaluations
- Ability to independently manage complex assignments involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and sensitive information
- Strong facilitation, critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
- Ability to influence decisions and drive improvement without direct authority
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively with frontline employees, technical specialists, operational leaders, and senior management
- Ability to communicate complex technical information through clear reports, presentations, recommendations, and leadership briefings
- Current, valid authorization to travel internationally, including Canada, the US, and Mexico
- Successful completion of a criminal background check for US applicants
- Ability to participate in an emergency response or on-call rotation
- Professional Engineer designation or another relevant professional certification is preferred
- Formal training or certification in Cause Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, TapRooT, or comparable investigation methodology is preferred
- Advanced Incident Command System or emergency management training is preferred
- Experience with Incident Support Teams, Incident Management Teams, Emergency Operations Centers, or comparable emergency response organizations is preferred
- Experience in energy, pipeline, utility, petrochemical, manufacturing, transportation, or another high-hazard industry is preferred
- Experience using incident management systems, data analytics, dashboards, and performance reporting tools is preferred
- Spanish language ability is an asset
