About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership and strategic direction to an experienced team of Safety subject matter experts
- Own enterprise safety requirements, strategy, and technical expertise covering occupational safety and contractor safety management
- Collaborate with Business Unit operations and project teams, BU Safety teams, and Safety & Technical Services stakeholders
- Set direction and standards for occupational safety programs across regions and business units
- Implement enterprise components of the contractor safety management model, including prequalification, onboarding, assurance, and contractor performance review
- Drive programs alignment through harmonized training, change management, and communication
- Manage team performance, including hiring personnel
- Promote shared organizational learnings and support a learning culture
- Lead safety assessments, initiatives, communities of practice, and committees
- Present safety strategies and pathways to stakeholders
- Interface with external regulators, contractors, and industry groups
- Participate in investigations, internal assessments, and preventative and corrective actions
- Monitor leading and lagging indicators, report performance to leadership, and steer corrective action
- Manage the team budget and identify business-unit budget impacts
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10 years of experience in safety management
- Post-secondary degree in a safety related discipline (process safety engineering, occupational safety, etc.)
- Minimum of 3 years leadership experience
- Certification or accreditation in safety (CRSP, CSP, etc.) or recognized equivalent
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license
- Excellent technical and report writing abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to challenge status-quo to drive consensus
- Influential leader with proficiency in human and organizational performance and culture transformation
- Hold a valid passport
- Ability and willingness to travel with an expectation of a minimum of 20% to conduct assurance and support for field activities
- Experience in the upstream and midstream oil and gas and/or power generating industry(s) preferred
- Working knowledge of safety metrics, process safety, management systems, projects/contractor safety, and pipeline/gas facility operations preferred
- Fluent written and oral French and/or Spanish language skills preferred
- Strong knowledge and experience in all areas of Safety and Health Programs preferred
- Strong working knowledge of various Regulatory Frameworks and Environments in the TC Energy operating footprint preferred
- Training in investigations and assurance/audits preferred
- Legal authorization to work in the country where the position is based, without restrictions
- Successful completion of required background screening
