About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, test and maintain backend services and APIs, primarily using Java
- Develop accessible, user-facing features using TypeScript and React
- Use Python for analytics, internal tooling and automation
- Integrate backend services with foundation-model APIs and third-party agentic platforms
- Maintain clear, reliable and type-safe contracts between backend and frontend components
- Apply testing, validation, error handling, observability and fallback behaviour
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation and engineering standards
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to shape requirements and deliver production-ready solutions
- Evaluate emerging technologies pragmatically and apply them where they add clear value
Requirements
What you’ll need- A degree in a relevant STEM discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong programming fundamentals in Java or another statically typed language
- Experience with JavaScript and modern web-development fundamentals
- Sound understanding of relational databases, data modelling and SQL
- Experience using Git, Docker, automated testing and common software-development workflows
- Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code or comparable tools
- Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take ownership of defined work, contribute to technical design and deliver to an agreed standard
