About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee day-to-day administration and strategic alignment of health and welfare plans
- Manage the self-insured medical plan and monitor plan performance
- Analyze medical and prescription drug claims, trends, high-cost claimants, and cost drivers
- Coordinate stop-loss renewals, threshold tracking, and reimbursement filings
- Manage TPA, PBM, benefits broker, and carrier relationships
- Handle billing, claims funding, reserves, and employee contribution/invoice reconciliations
- Lead annual Open Enrollment, communications, informational sessions, system updates, and audits
- Manage enrollment changes, qualifying life events, dependent eligibility verification, and COBRA processing
- Support disability programs and benefit premiums during FMLA/LOA periods
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA, and related regulations
- Maintain SPDs, SBCs, plan documents, and Form 5500 filings
- Coordinate nondiscrimination testing and lead annual 401K and benefits audits
- Resolve escalated employee claims and draft benefits communications
- Report directly to the HR Operations Director
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 5 years of direct experience dedicated to health & welfare plan administration
- Experience managing self-insured/self-funded medical plans, including stop-loss insurance, TPAs, and PBMs
- Experience administering benefits using Workday
- Advanced MS Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data modeling
- Deep functional knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and IRS Section 125 rules
- Strong data analytics capabilities
- Exceptional employee communication skills
- CEBS, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certifications preferred
