About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review and process new, open, routine, complex, and backlogged FOIA requests
- Determine whether records are responsive to assigned requests
- Analyze records and recommend the appropriate application of FOIA and Privacy Act exemptions
- Prepare records for release by applying redactions
- Draft correspondence to requesters and coordinate with records custodians to clarify scope, search terms, and disclosure concerns
- Support FOIA appeals and litigation by organizing case files, reviewing records, and preparing supporting documentation
- Use case-management, eDiscovery, SharePoint, Box, and other approved systems
- Record case actions, correspondence, determinations, and supporting documentation accurately in the designated tracking system
- Prepare document indices, status reports, disclosure analyses, and case-closure documentation
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- At least 5 years of relevant FOIA experience
- Demonstrated expertise reviewing and handling federal FOIA cases
- Advanced knowledge of FOIA exemptions, the Privacy Act, disclosure analysis, appeals, and litigation support
- Experience using eDiscovery, electronic case-management, and redaction tools; experience with Relativity is highly desirable
- Ability to independently analyze complex or sensitive records and produce accurate, defensible recommendations
- Exceptional analytical, writing, quality-control, and organizational skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain the required security clearance
