About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Deliver assigned engineering outcomes end-to-end independently
  • Drive work plans and day-to-day decisions aligned to mission goals and delivery milestones
  • Provide technical leadership for a small team
  • Mentor engineers through coaching, technical review, and pairing
  • Define and maintain engineering standards, configuration baselines, testing practices, and quality gates
  • Make technical decisions balancing reliability, scalability, performance, and operational supportability
  • Produce clear, traceable, implementation-ready technical designs
  • Author and maintain Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for repeatable change execution
  • Create and improve operational runbooks for fault isolation, recovery, and escalation
  • Troubleshoot complex L2/L3 networking issues
  • Identify repetitive work and create reusable scripts, checks, and workflows
  • Communicate technical context and decisions to engineers, operations, and stakeholders
  • Provide advanced technical leadership and operational support for NTU Device hardware, Network Integration, and Element Manager platform
  • Support critical Fixed Engineering projects focused on NTU hardware
  • Deliver successful integration of an NTU solution within the Ethernet Packet mission
  • Conduct expert-level configuration, comprehensive testing, defect resolution, and vendor collaboration

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5–10+ years’ experience in telecommunications carrier or large enterprise network environments
  • Experience working within a telecommunications carrier (Telstra preferred)
  • Deep L2/L3 networking expertise at CCNP (or equivalent) level
  • Strong Linux operating system proficiency
  • Network testing experience using IXIA (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience writing and maintaining automation and tooling
  • Strong scripting skills in Python
  • Strong scripting skills in Bash
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and automation support
  • Exposure to or hands-on experience building AI-assisted solutions or AI agents
  • Demonstrated ability to apply automation/AI to improve engineering and operational workflows
  • Experience with RAD or ADTRAN platforms is desirable but not essential
  • Successful completion of a background check
