About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Set and communicate the multi-year technical vision for the Builder Platform
Lead architecture and evolution of Temporal’s Agent Platform
Establish AI Infrastructure, including LLM and MCP gateways, guardrails, fallbacks, usage and cost controls, rollout policies, and SLOs
Implement AI Governance with Security, Legal, and IT
Architect agents and workflows for engineering and business work
Own technical strategy for Developer Infrastructure, source control, CI, and developer tools
Partner with leaders across Engineering, Product, Sales, and G&A to prioritize AI opportunities
Standardize agent and agentic-tool adoption through best practices, paved roads, and enablement
Define architectural and organizational boundaries and make tradeoffs across speed, flexibility, reliability, security, cost, and maintainability
Measure adoption, velocity, reliability, cost, and productivity outcomes
Own the customer-zero strategy and translate learnings into requirements for Temporal Cloud, SDKs, and Agent Harness
Lead open-source reference architecture and represent strategy with customers, partners, and the technical community
Develop senior technical leaders and align engineering leads and managers
Participate in on-call rotation and lead systemic operational improvements

Requirements

What you’ll need

Strong software engineering fundamentals and track record setting technical direction and delivering major platform initiatives across multiple engineering teams
Experience leveraging modern agentic coding tools such as Codex and Claude Code
Proficiency in Go, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or Java, with deep expertise in at least one relevant domain
Experience building and operating internal platforms, developer infrastructure, or agent platforms adopted across a company
Strong judgment in platform-boundary decisions and technical tradeoffs
Ability to influence engineering, Security, Legal, IT, Product, and business stakeholders
Experience defining outcome-oriented developer productivity or AI-system metrics
Clear written communication and technical strategy documentation
Experience establishing governance through paved roads
Evidence of mentoring technical leaders and improving team effectiveness
Participation in an on-call rotation
Nice to have: internal agents and agent platform experience
Nice to have: Temporal applications experience
Nice to have: AI governance, model-access infrastructure, or agent evaluation experience
Nice to have: GitHub configuration, policy, and workflows at organizational scale
Nice to have: SPACE and DORA metrics familiarity
