About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design the abstraction model unifying AWS, GCP, and Azure into one platform
  • Design and build a significant multi-component infrastructure platform end to end
  • Coordinate engineers working on platform components and make system-level tradeoffs explicit
  • Define declarative infrastructure models for Kubernetes workloads and supporting cloud resources
  • Establish reproducible environments, drift visibility, and safe reconciliation
  • Design a deployment control plane with shared inventory, dependency awareness, rollout sequencing, and approvals
  • Build reliability into designs through bounded blast radius, progressive rollouts, observability, load and failure testing, and recovery
  • Lead the capability roadmap with the engineering manager
  • Evaluate requests and balance technical and business risk
  • Define development processes and operational best practices
  • Coach senior engineers, lead design reviews, review critical pull requests, and help hire engineers
  • Collaborate with Traffic, Control Plane, Developer Productivity, Security, and service owners
  • Own compatibility and migration as the platform evolves
  • Operate and evolve infrastructure supporting Temporal Cloud, including Kubernetes-based platforms and Temporal workflows

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years building software, including significant experience designing and operating distributed infrastructure in production
  • Production infrastructure experience on at least two of AWS, GCP, and Azure
  • Experience building, operationalizing, and scaling Kubernetes-based platforms across cloud providers
  • Deep Kubernetes knowledge, including scheduling, controllers and reconciliation, resource management, isolation, and upgrade safety
  • Experience designing and building a significant multi-component system and coordinating other engineers
  • Strong coding skills in Go or another systems language; continued meaningful coding
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Knowledge of multi-cloud platform abstractions, Kubernetes architecture and operations, system-level tradeoffs, design reviews, code reviews, coaching, and technical writing
  • Preferred: experience across all three cloud providers, Kubernetes controllers/operators, Crossplane or ACK, Kubernetes/CNCF open source contributions, deployment control planes, progressive delivery, dependency-aware rollouts, safe infrastructure migrations, lifecycle automation, Go infrastructure services, and Temporal workflow orchestration
