About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop and maintain clean, efficient, secure and well-tested backend code
  • Ensure scalability, performance and reliability across Teya's systems
  • Own features and projects through scoping, design, development, testing, deployment and maintenance
  • Collaborate with product, design, data science, security and operations teams
  • Contribute technical insights and architecture discussions
  • Build tools and integrate systems to improve operational efficiency, reliability and scalability
  • Improve continuous integration, delivery and deployment processes
  • Participate in code reviews and elevate team output quality and performance
  • Mentor and support fellow developers
  • Stay current with software engineering, payments and fintech trends
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across systems and provide timely resolutions
  • Define and promote best practices in code quality, testing, automation and security
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and support other teams

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience
  • Strong experience building backend systems with Java 17+ and Spring Boot
  • Proven ability to design, build and operate reliable services in production
  • Experience with system design, scalable architectures, microservices and API development
  • Strong understanding of databases, data structures, performance trade-offs and distributed systems
  • Practical experience with Kafka and event-driven systems
  • Strong focus on monitoring, observability, testing and operational ownership
  • Experience debugging complex issues across multiple services or systems
  • Ability to work autonomously, make sound technical decisions and become productive quickly
  • Clear communication skills, with ability to explain complex topics and influence technical direction
  • Collaborative approach and interest in supporting the growth of other engineers
  • Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is nice to have
  • Previous experience in payments, fintech, or location and business recommendation services platforms is nice to have
  • Experience with AWS, Kubernetes and Helm is nice to have
  • Experience with Laravel, Spring, Reactor or relevant frameworks, SDKs, APIs and libraries is nice to have
  • Familiarity with RBAC, ABAC or SpiceDB is nice to have
  • Experience with BDD or TDD is nice to have
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines is nice to have
