About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Oversee operations of all assigned services and improve services through measured outcomes
- Ensure staff meet the agency’s quality improvement plan measures
- Implement written guidelines, practices, procedures and policies consistently
- Provide supervision and guidance to assigned staff
- Evaluate staffing and ensure staffing meets service needs while maintaining budgets
- Ensure managers and staff adhere to agency policies and procedures
- Ensure funding plans reflect the needs of people receiving supports
- Ensure managers deliver supports outlined in service plans
- Submit new service funding plans to DDA when budgets become inadequate and ensure follow-through
- Ensure staff maintain required training for medication administration and delegated nursing functions
- Maintain professional relationships with support team members and uphold ethical standards
- Oversee employment, day, community supports, autism waiver, virtual, ISS, DORS and personal support programs
- Direct activities with the Community Supports Manager across Calvert, St. Mary’s, Charles and Anne Arundel locations and other employment, recreational and volunteer sites
- Set staff performance goals and maintain a high-quality, motivated workforce
- Facilitate staff meetings, communication, training and mentoring
- Guide schedules and supervise staff through interviewing, evaluation, counseling and termination
- Maintain efficient, compliant and economical operating systems
- Monitor department performance, take corrective action and lead capability-building programs
- Monitor crises, incidents, support adjustments and regulatory reporting
- Maintain expenses and monitor assigned budgets in accordance with funding requirements
- Communicate concerns to the Director and maintain relationships with managers, staff, families, DDA, DHR, funding sources and community organizations
- Attend after-hours business events and transitioning youth/school events to build community partnerships
- Ensure staff use assigned technology efficiently and maintain current technology knowledge
- Compare systems to help managers maintain program ratios and at least an 85% utilization rate
- Implement quality improvement plans and coordinate or assist with investigations of suspected abuse, neglect or mistreatment
- Develop prevention plans for confirmed abuse, neglect or mistreatment
- Make decisions using available human and financial resources
- Carry out short- and long-term goals with the Director
- Follow up on leadership decisions and ensure execution
- Respond to emergencies and maintain a visible presence in assigned counties
- Maintain records, compile and evaluate data, submit reports and manage documentation
- Develop document retention systems, including a computerized system
- Ensure Caseworthy documentation is entered and approved within 24 hours
- Monitor ADP payroll coding to ensure services are billed correctly
- Provide coverage for the Director or assigned staff when required
- Prepare and maintain a position manual
- Attend staff meetings and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of progressively responsible experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Supervisory experience
- Knowledge and understanding of DDA, National, State and local issues relating to intellectual and cognitive disabilities
- Proficiency in computer-based software, including Excel, Word and additional databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Good command of the English language, oral and written
- Forward thinking and creative
- Organized, self-directed and a team player
- Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
- Working knowledge of funding streams from DDA
- Effective supervisory skills
- Ability and willingness to accept emergency phone calls and respond to emergencies twenty-four hours a day
- Valid driving license with a good driving record for transporting people receiving services
- Ability to pass the criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland
