About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Acquire, arrange, catalog, and facilitate access to archival records
  • Exercise discretion and judgment when applying professional standards and practices
  • Work independently and manage own work
  • Represent teams while traveling
  • Train and direct volunteers and missionaries to acquire, process, and/or facilitate access to records
  • Handle sensitive information across diverse cultures and languages, including confidential and sensitive information concerning Church leaders and operations
  • Support and train interns and volunteers
  • Prepare training materials or process documentation as assigned by the manager
  • Perform research and other assigned tasks to support the team
  • Identify information and stories aligned with stated needs
  • Contribute to enhanced finding aids, databases, or reference documents
  • Work expeditiously and accurately in collaboration with employees, interns, and volunteers located across the world

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in history, library science, archival studies, anthropology, sociology, global studies, or another related field
  • Two years of experience or equivalent education and experience
  • Practical knowledge of history, especially Church history
  • Understanding of archival principles, practices, and standards
  • University-level oral and written communication skills, including basic editing skills
  • Ability to effectively train and support interns, volunteers, and missionaries
  • Familiarity with Church history resources
  • Familiarity with fundamental principles of effective digital user experience and applying them to structure and describe collections for discoverability and usefulness
  • Practical knowledge of historical research methodology
  • Good judgment; organization and planning skills; ability to perceive and analyze problems
  • Interpersonal skills, including ability to handle difficult donors and patrons professionally
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to sit for long periods while using computer monitors/equipment
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to dust and mold from old records and artifacts
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy
