About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide intellectual property legal support for the Church
- Understand and apply intellectual property laws and Church policies and procedures
- Review and analyze Church materials and determine whether intellectual property contracts, policies, and procedures protect the Church
- Manage third-party licensing requests for Church-owned or licensed materials
- Investigate licensing requests, coordinate with departments and legal counsel, negotiate legal terms, and decide whether to grant or deny permissions
- Coordinate trademark registrations and renewals, including trademark searches, class descriptions, applications, renewals, and docket management
- Coordinate copyright registration for widely distributed Church-owned materials
- Coordinate intellectual property infringement matters, investigate submissions, coordinate with legal counsel, correspond with infringing parties, and submit social media infringement claims
- Review third-party contracts and assess terms and risks with legal counsel
- Provide specialized intellectual property training to department IP managers and general training to Church departments and area offices
- Exercise professional discretion and independent judgment on significant matters
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Paralegal certification required, defined as passing a nationally recognized paralegal examination
- Six years of directly related paralegal experience required
- Four years of experience as a paralegal
- Significant experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, and email software
- Notary Public
- Ability to analyze and document complex legal situations and explain them to others
- Excellent writing skills
- Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy
- Must qualify for employment by being worthy of a temple recommend
