About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead execution of AP’s assessment systems roadmap strategy with the Executive Director
  • Drive annual execution and maintenance of the AP digital assessment inventory
  • Lead design and architecture of the AP Assessment Design & Systems SharePoint environment
  • Represent assessment priorities, requirements, and dependencies in systems and digital roadmap discussions
  • Translate assessment systems data into insights through visualizations, executive reporting, and presentations
  • Apply assessment standards, interoperability protocols, accessibility requirements, and generative AI tools to strengthen systems requirements
  • Develop and own the assessment design intake framework for new and revised AP courses
  • Own the AP assessment design knowledge base covering principles, item design, form development, psychometrics, validity, fairness, and lifecycle resources
  • Partner with the Executive Director and Psychometrics on multi-year test form planning
  • Advise the Executive Director on assessment design priorities, risks, dependencies, and solutions
  • Support innovative item design and emerging assessment practices
  • Lead the divisional AP Assessment Community of Practice
  • Coordinate internal and external subject-matter experts and speakers
  • Plan and execute community sessions, event logistics, session assets, and resource archives

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 8+ years of progressive leadership experience in assessment design, test development, or assessment systems
  • Deep expertise in educational assessment design, including assessments built, validated, and delivered at scale
  • Fluency in psychometric, fairness, and design principles for large-scale exams
  • Experience leading strategic initiatives across assessment design, systems, and knowledge management
  • Ability to translate complex assessment and technical requirements into actionable direction
  • Ability to lead cross-functional conversations and align product, technology, psychometrics, curriculum, and assessment stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including executive-level insights, visualizations, and presentations
  • Fluency in assessment design conventions and data structures, including blueprints, test and form constraints, item pools, and scoring specifications
  • Knowledge of QTI, APIP, HTML, WCAG, and metadata schemas
  • Familiarity with JSON, Python or SAS, and accessibility frameworks is a plus
  • Strong proficiency in SharePoint, Smartsheet, and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365
  • Familiarity with Productboard, Jira, and Confluence
