About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support daily operations of a large residential dining facility or dining retail unit under the General Manager
- Oversee daily service operations, food quality, safety, cleanliness, and customer satisfaction
- Serve as manager-on-duty, direct floor operations, coordinate kitchen and service staff, resolve real-time issues, and ensure timely meal service
- Help conduct weekly inventory and monitor supply levels
- Collaborate with the culinary team on food quality and presentation
- Enforce food safety regulations and UHD sanitation policies
- Lead and support full-time, part-time, student, and temporary dining employees
- Provide coaching, feedback, onboarding, training, scheduling support, performance reviews, and development support
- Ensure service meets student and guest expectations and resolve customer concerns
- Collaborate on dining promotions, themed events, and student engagement activities
- Monitor food cost, labor, inventory, waste, productivity, sales, invoices, and unit performance
- Use FoodPro for forecasting, ordering, production planning, inventory management, and food cost evaluation
- Document operational updates and action items across shifts
- Communicate with staff, students, campus partners, leadership, and UHD departments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree in business, food and nutrition, or a related field
- At least 2 years of management experience in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
- Experience with operating a standard kitchen
- Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining
- Ability to complete and maintain University Housing and Dining cash handling training
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
- Criminal history background check required for finalists
- Must complete federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 and present documents proving identity and authorization to work in the United States
- Preferred: Three years or more of supervisory/management experience in food service or a similar capacity
- Preferred: Five years or more of food service experience in a commercial or institutional facility
- Preferred: Experience working in a large university dining setting
- Preferred: Experience training, coaching, and evaluating staff
- Preferred: Experience working in a high volume/fast-paced food service environment
- Preferred: Experience managing labor and food cost
- Preferred: Experience maintaining inventory control
- Preferred: Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Preferred: Experience using Microsoft Office and computer systems
- Preferred: Strong organizational skills
- Preferred: Professional demeanor and ability to work with a large customer base
