About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Safely operate riding mowers, tractors, loaders, sweepers, push mowers, string trimmers, cultivators, edgers, and other landscaping tools
- Install, replace, and maintain campus turf, shrubs, and hardscape to university standards
- Report hazardous conditions on university property
- Irrigate turf, trees, and shrubs; follow water restrictions; perform or report minor irrigation repairs; assist with small irrigation system installations
- Pick up litter, empty trash receptacles, and maintain neat university properties
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and power tools; maintain schedules, report repairs, clean equipment, maintain fluid levels, and assist with inventory
- Clean, maintain, and operate a university vehicle
- Maintain an acceptable driver's rating
- Follow instructions and supervisor-set work schedules
- Complete weekly electronic time reports and other UT-related forms
- Work independently and as part of a team at various university locations
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow and promote safety rules
- Perform other related functions as assigned
- Work 40 hours, generally 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Monday–Friday; work hours may vary and overtime may be required
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School graduation or GED
- One year of experience in the maintenance, or operation of commercial-sized landscape equipment, including tractors and riding mowers
- One year experience in landscape maintenance or construction
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, office staff, and the university community
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently
- Demonstrated stable work history and work ethic
- Punctual attendance and available for work
- Ability to pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Capable of working in all types of adverse conditions (weather, dust, noise, heights, fumes, etc.)
- Class C driver's license is required
- If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident
- A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration
- If hired, must complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form and present acceptable original documents proving identity and authorization to work in the United States
- Current three year driving record from the current state of residence
- Resume/CV
- 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor
- Letter of interest
