About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support daily operations of varying food service operations
  • Assist in leading dining staff during meal service and ensure assigned tasks are completed efficiently
  • Train staff on food handling, safety procedures, customer service expectations, and station setup
  • Manage daily area work assignments and ensure smooth workflow
  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Perform short-order and made-to-order cooking and prepare customized drinks using commercial kitchen equipment
  • Read and execute recipes according to culinary standards
  • Set up, stock, clean, replenish, and break down serving areas, workstations, and equipment
  • Restock shelves, beverage stations, and convenience store merchandise
  • Track inventory, assist with ordering supplies, and minimize food waste
  • Greet and assist customers and provide excellent customer service
  • Operate POS systems and accurately process meal plan, cash, and credit card transactions
  • Monitor food presentation, quality, portion control, temperatures, and food safety compliance
  • Store food using wrapping, dating, and rotation procedures; prevent cross-contamination
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation across dining rooms, kitchens, dish areas, bathrooms, and service areas
  • Maintain and replenish service supplies
  • Report emergencies and equipment issues
  • Complete food safety training and cashier-operation paperwork, including cash reconciliation and deposit reports
  • Adhere to University policies regarding time, attendance, training, and compliance
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Two years of experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility
  • Experience training or leading staff in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional food facility
  • Experience with operating standard kitchen equipment
  • Ability to complete and maintain Food Safety Training required by University Housing and Dining
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
  • Three or more years of experience working and preparing food in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional facility using commercial kitchen equipment (preferred)
  • Two years or more of experience as a cashier in a food service operation utilizing point-of-sale (POS) systems (preferred)
  • One or more years of experience training or leading staff in a restaurant, commercial, or institutional food facility (preferred)
  • Customer service experience in a high-volume food service operation (preferred)
  • Experience following recipes (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills (preferred)
  • Ability to multi-task and work with little supervision (preferred)
  • The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment

  • Criminal history background check required for finalists
  • Must present acceptable and original documents proving identity and authorization to work in the United States no later than the third day of employment
