About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the day-to-day execution of assigned premium, loss, commission, cash, receivable, collection, and related accounting processes
  • Collaborate with management on team priorities, work assignment, alignment, progress monitoring, and timely completion of deliverables
  • Review and approve account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analyses, control documentation, and other accounting deliverables
  • Oversee investigation and resolution of accounting discrepancies, aged reconciling items, interface issues, and operational exceptions
  • Ensure accounting activity complies with applicable accounting policies, control requirements, and established procedures
  • Analyze overdue premium, financial receivables, legal collections, and other relevant trends
  • Identify emerging issues and communicate insights and recommendations to management and business partners
  • Oversee performance, review, and documentation of applicable Sarbanes-Oxley controls
  • Support accounting policy, control-standard, departmental-procedure, audit, regulatory examination, and compliance activities
  • Coach, develop, and hold junior accounting professionals accountable for quality, accuracy, timeliness, and execution
  • Provide input into performance evaluations, compensation recommendations, development plans, and talent decisions
  • Allocate resources, adjust priorities, and develop team capabilities through coaching, training, knowledge sharing, cross-training, and stretch assignments
  • Evaluate accounting processes and lead or support standardization, automation, workflow improvement, and financial-system changes
  • Use financial data and operational metrics to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities
  • Develop and monitor measures related to timeliness, quality, productivity, outstanding items, and control effectiveness
  • Serve as subject matter expert and primary contact for assigned accounting processes
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Technology, Treasury, Claims, Billing, and other teams to resolve issues and implement solutions
  • Communicate accounting results, trends, risks, control matters, and operational concerns to management and business partners
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and initiatives affecting assigned accounting processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting, finance, or related professional experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding of Property & Casualty insurance (Personal and Commercial Lines)
  • Experience preparing or reviewing account reconciliations, journal entries, financial analyses, and/or accounting controls
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting principles and internal-control practices
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft 365 applications, including Power BI
  • Preferred: 2+ years of supervisory, team leadership, project leadership, or comparable experience
  • Preferred: Experience with premium, loss, commission, cash, receivable, collection, or other operational accounting processes
  • Preferred: Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley controls and internal or external audits
  • Preferred: Experience using general ledger, reconciliation, financial reporting, workflow, or enterprise resource planning systems
  • Preferred: Experience with data analytics, business-intelligence, visualization, or automation tools
  • Preferred: Familiarity with legacy/mainframe systems
  • Preferred: CPA, CMA, MBA, or another relevant professional designation
