About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle catastrophe property claims requiring field investigations and/or inspections
  • Establish rapport with insureds and maintain relationships with agents, underwriters, contractors, restoration vendors, and experts
  • Maintain knowledge of territory geography, property-claim regulations and law, public safety and regulatory agencies, insurance and legal climate, and public adjusters
  • Handle personal property claims involving outside field investigations and/or inspections
  • Handle business interruption features with BI specialists
  • Work within defined limits and authority on moderately complex assignments
  • Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and negotiate personal claims of minimal to moderate complexity and possibly low-complexity commercial claims
  • Manage all aspects of claims, including informal hearings, arbitrations, and small claims litigation
  • Maintain productivity, confidentiality, and customer service standards
  • Implement and coordinate management techniques to mitigate loss and expense payments
  • Exercise moderate settlement and reserving authority
  • Use a company claims office or home as a base of operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with an insurance carrier as a staff CAT or Property Adjuster
  • Must have or secure and maintain appropriate states adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to negotiate skillfully in difficult situations with internal and external groups
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law
  • Critical thinking and timely problem-solving ability
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements or priorities
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to operate with latitude for un-reviewed action or decision
  • Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment
  • Ability to travel 75% of the time and travel on little to no notice
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle 4-5 hours per day and repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle
  • Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged buildings
