About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Independently manage moderate to complex and high-value field property claims
  • Conduct outside field investigations and catastrophe response
  • Communicate empathetically with claimants and stakeholders throughout the claims process
  • Set reserves, authorize payments, and make financial decisions within authority
  • Investigate claims, assess coverage, and issue reservation of rights and coverage letters
  • Investigate suspicious claims and refer cases to the Special Investigation Unit as needed
  • Identify risk-transfer and subrogation opportunities and support recovery efforts
  • Maintain detailed claim records and ensure jurisdictional and regulatory compliance
  • Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Coordinate with legal, underwriting, vendors, agents, and other stakeholders
  • Lead cross-functional meetings and communicate complex information
  • Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed
  • Mentor junior adjusters and support training and best-practice development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with claim handling
  • Typically 5–10 years of adjusting experience
  • Must have and maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses
  • Must maintain continuing education credits
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong Xactimate proficiency, preferably Level II Certified
  • Strong knowledge of local geography, regulations, public safety agencies, applicable statutes, regulations, case law, and third-party legal liability concepts
  • Negotiation, strategy, sound judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization, time management, and desk management skills
  • Experience using claims systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Required to work on-site as needed
  • Ability to travel as necessary
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, or stressful environment
  • Ability to perform work in a noisy/loud environment
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle 4–5 hours per day and enter/exit the vehicle repeatedly
  • Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged buildings
  • Ability to safely use a ladder and maintain balance while inspecting roofs
  • Ability to perform field work in adverse weather
