About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Independently manage moderate to complex and high-value field property claims
- Conduct outside field investigations and catastrophe response
- Communicate empathetically and clearly with claimants and stakeholders throughout the claims process
- Set reserves, authorize payments, and make financial decisions within authority
- Lead investigations, assess coverage, and issue reservation of rights and coverage letters
- Investigate suspicious claims, use advanced techniques and tools, and refer matters to the Special Investigation Unit as needed
- Identify risk-transfer and subrogation opportunities and support recovery efforts
- Maintain detailed claim records and ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements
- Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations
- Coordinate with legal, underwriting, vendors, agents, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Lead cross-functional meetings and communicate complex information to diverse audiences
- Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and trials as needed
- Mentor junior adjusters and support training and best-practice development
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with claim handling
- Typically requires 5–10 years of adjusting experience
- Must have and maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses
- Must maintain continuing education credits
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong Xactimate proficiency, preferably Level II Certified
- Strong knowledge of local geography, regulations, public safety agencies, applicable statutes, regulations, case law, and third-party legal liability concepts
- Negotiation and outcome-influencing strategy skills
- Sound judgment and decision-making, including litigation and compliance matters
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
- Organization, time management, and desk management skills
- Ability to analyze complex issues, evaluate risks and outcomes, and act independently within authority
- Ability to use claims systems and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Required to work on-site as needed
- Ability to travel as necessary
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing, or stressful environment
- Ability to perform work in a noisy/loud environment
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle 4–5 hours per day and repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle
- Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
- Ability to bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged buildings
- Ability to use a ladder safely and maintain balance while inspecting roofs
- Ability to perform field work in adverse weather
