About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Specialty accounts
- Drive profitable growth aligned with industry segments, appetite, and mix goals
- Apply advanced underwriting, sales, analytical, risk selection, exposure, hazard, coverage, and loss-analysis expertise
- Analyze pricing components, rating methodology, exposure, financial, and competitive data
- Apply CAT guidelines and aggregation strategies
- Explain coverage, exposures, and controls to agents
- Manage an assigned portfolio and achieve premium, profitability, rate, retention, industry, LOB mix, new business, and portfolio goals
- Build profitable relationships with agencies, internal management, and external resources
- Construct and execute portfolio business plans and special projects
- Review metrics, identify trends, and uncover business opportunities
- Drive profit-improvement initiatives with key agents
- Coordinate with Specialty departments on cross-sell opportunities
- Identify enhanced sales opportunities across lines of business and customer segments
- Manage producer relationships, negotiations, stewardship activities, and account retention
- Implement territory business plans and maintain a pipeline for profitable growth
- Train agents and transfer product knowledge
- Present products to agents and customers and uncover needs, position solutions, handle objections, and close deals
- Travel regularly throughout the assigned territory for agency partnerships, business development, meetings, and industry events
- Report to the Leader of the Financial Institutions practice
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- 5–7 years underwriting Financial Institutions with a focus on asset managers, including registered investment advisers (RIAs), private fund managers, and other investment management firms
- 5–7+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business
- High proficiency across Lines of Business underwriting core competencies; may specialize/certify in 1–2 specialty areas
- Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
- Ability to collaborate on complex risks, pricing, trends, industry segments, coverages, and product knowledge
- Ability to adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and advocate for change
- Informal leadership capability, knowledge sharing, and mentoring of less experienced or newly hired underwriters
- Confident communication and influence with internal and external business partners
- Sound judgment, negotiation, and business decision-making within authority
- Ability to foster collaboration and work with diverse teams
