About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify, solicit, underwrite, and sell new and renewal Technology accounts
  • Apply risk selection, hazard identification, coverage analysis, and loss analysis
  • Utilize underwriting tools and guidelines to ensure compliance and profitability
  • Analyze pricing components, rating methodology, exposure, financial analysis, and competitive positioning
  • Uncover the full scope of operations and exposures through critical questioning
  • Complete file documentation and clearly articulate account decisions
  • Follow CAT guidelines and maintain underwriting discipline
  • Provide accurate rating instructions before proposal generation
  • Underwrite and price Technology specialty coverages including products, professional, and cyber liability
  • Manage an assigned portfolio to achieve premium, profitability, retention, industry mix, and new business goals
  • Analyze financial reports and insurance performance metrics, including OBIEE
  • Prepare and review adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and declinations
  • Identify, solicit, pipeline, negotiate, and close accounts aligned with Technology and branch strategies
  • Profile agency partners and market capabilities to agents
  • Maintain knowledge of state and territory regulations and trends
  • Build relationships and secure commitments through relationship management and negotiation
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities and partner with other business units
  • Communicate Hanover’s products and appetite at point of sale
  • Execute sales practices using Salesforce and other tools
  • Deliver sales presentations to agents and customers
  • Collaborate with Claims, Risk Solutions, and Operations
  • Develop and implement Territory Business Plans for agency partners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 3–7+ years in standard commercial lines underwriting
  • Experience with accounts $100K+ preferred
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, pricing methodology, and risk assessment
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to consult effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Skilled in exercising sound judgment, negotiating effectively, and making informed business decisions
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to change, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong team orientation; fosters inclusion and respect for diverse perspectives
  • Proficient in prioritization, desk management, and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency in underwriting systems/tools
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance
  • Ability to work assigned schedules and communicate through phone, email, Teams, and in-person interactions as required
  • Ability to travel based on business needs
