About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle a caseload of claims-made Employment Practices Liability claims from inception to final disposition
  • Conduct investigations and analyze and evaluate claim information
  • Analyze and determine coverage, liability, and damages
  • Communicate written positions to insureds and other required parties
  • Set and regularly monitor expense and indemnity reserves
  • Present cases to management for reserve authority above established levels
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies through negotiations
  • Manage litigation and defense counsel, including litigation planning, budgeting, and bill review
  • Analyze potential extra-contractual liability
  • Attend trials and mediations as necessary
  • Participate in audits, projects, training, and product development initiatives
  • Prepare reports and deliver presentations to senior claim leadership
  • Support business partners in evaluating claim trends and developments
  • Address agent and policyholder inquiries and provide customer service
  • Provide training and marketing support to underwriters
  • Attend and present at industry events on risk management and claims topics
  • Organize and present webinars and in-house risk management seminars for high-profile insureds

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • College Degree Required
  • Juris Doctorate degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years handling litigated coverage and liability cases and/or claims
  • Knowledge and experience handling all aspects of EPL claims
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent strategic thinking ability and execution skills
  • Excellent negotiation and advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues
  • Superior time, task prioritization and desk management skills
  • Ability to communicate thoughts clearly and concisely, and to influence and persuade others
  • Ability to work with only moderate amount of supervision and employ a “team player” attitude
  • Candidates near an office location are expected to work in-office 3 days a week, Tuesday through Thursday
  • Remote candidates must come into an office as business needs arise
