About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle a caseload of general liability bodily injury and property damage claims from inception to final disposition
  • Investigate, analyze, and evaluate claim information
  • Make coverage determinations and communicate written positions to insureds and other required parties
  • Set and regularly monitor expense and indemnity reserves within prescribed authority levels
  • Present cases to management for reserve authority above established levels
  • Develop and implement resolution strategies
  • Proactively manage litigation and defense counsel, including litigation planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review
  • Attend trials and mediations as necessary
  • Participate in audits, projects, and product development initiatives
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for senior claim leadership
  • Address case developments, policy issues, and industry trends
  • Work with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments
  • Respond to agents’ and policyholders’ inquiries and provide customer service

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of five years handling general liability claims
  • Experience handling litigated matters and managing defense counsel
  • Prior experience handling general liability claims
  • High level of discipline and results-oriented focus
  • Superior analytical ability and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent strategic thinking and task execution skills
  • Excellent negotiation and technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws
  • Full command of issues and medicals relative to high-value bodily injury claims
  • Ability to analyze coverage and liability issues
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and influence and persuade others
  • Superior interpersonal skills and strong team-player abilities
  • Ability to exceed expectations and influence others to do the same
  • High-speed broadband internet service required for remote work
  • Minimum internet speeds of 5 Mbps upload and 30 Mbps download
  • Internet provider modem/router/gateway must be hardwired to the Hartford-issued computer with an Ethernet cable
