About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate, reserve, recommend and implement strategies to resolve general liability claims
  • Partner with Staff Legal and outside counsel to resolve General Liability cases
  • Manage claim files, including investigation, valuation, disposition and settlement
  • Assess claim exposure, organize priorities, anticipate issues and manage vendors
  • Interpret and apply insurance coverage and develop technical and jurisdictional expertise
  • Utilize claim loss cost management initiatives
  • Identify mitigation, subrogation and other recovery opportunities
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers
  • Gather customer information and use it to improve products and services
  • Investigate, evaluate and negotiate highly complex claims
  • Resolve complex coverage and compensability issues
  • Apply statutory laws and regulations of applicable jurisdictions
  • Manage loss costs and recognize potential for Subrogation and Special Investigation
  • Support a diverse, inclusive and high-performing team
  • Provide advanced expertise to teammates in solving problems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 to 5+ years relevant experience managing general liability claims strongly preferred
  • Technical expertise in managing claims of high complexity
  • Strong computer proficiency in utilizing software programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication, collaboration and negotiation skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Effective customer service skills
  • Adept at managing conflict while negotiating outcomes supporting The Hartford’s and the claimant’s best interests
  • Leader among claim handlers providing advanced expertise to teammates in solving problems
  • College degree preferred or 5+ years relevant work experience required
  • Consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span
  • State required certification exams and adjusting licenses
  • JD, SCLA or CPCU designation a plus
  • Must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster's License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims in the states supported by the office
  • Must pass licensing exam(s) within 30 business days from completion of licensing training
  • High-speed broadband internet service, hardwired modem/router/gateway, and minimum upload/download speeds of 10 Mbps/75 Mbps
  • Availability Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
